Take Control Of Your Household Maintenance

Do You Have Rheumatoid Arthritis? 3 Home Updates You Should Make

If you are dealing with rheumatoid arthritis, you know how painful your joints can be, and this pain can make it harder for you to do things. Fortunately, there are some changes you can make in your home so things will be a little easier for you.

Air Conditioning

Your joint pain can be aggravated by your air conditioning. You do not have to avoid air conditioning altogether, but you should make sure it is set at a higher temperature. If you have other people that live in your home, this will likely not be very comfortable for them. To take care of this problem, you can hire an HVAC technician to install a zoned air system. This will allow you to control the temperature in each room. For example, you could keep the temperature higher in your room, but keep it cooler in the rest of the house.

To install a zoned air system, the technician will install a main control panel and then install a thermostat in each room. They will then install dampers to the duct system to control the airflow to a particular room. Electronic Driveway Sensor

Because you have arthritis, it may take you longer to get to the door when someone knocks on it.  To help with this problem, you can have an electronic driveway sensor installed so you can be ready at the door by the time a person walks up to it. This sensor will sound a chime in your home as soon as a car pulls into the driveway. You can also have a controller installed that will turn on the lights inside your home when someone approaches your driveway. You can also set this controller to open or close a gate, depending on if the driver is entering or leaving.

Install a Doorbell Intercom

If you have problems getting up to answer the door, hire an electrician to install a doorbell intercom.  When someone rings your doorbell, every phone, except for cell phones, will start to ring. When you pick up the phone, it works just like an intercom so you can speak to the person that is outside your door. If you are already talking on the phone when someone arrives, you will hear a distinct call waiting tone.

You can also replace all of your round doorknobs with lever style knobs to make it easier for you to open and close doors.
