Take Control Of Your Household Maintenance

Preparing For A Move To Your New Home

When you are getting ready for a move, you are in a great position as far as being able to go through all your belongings and lightening your load. This is the time for you to decide what you want to keep and what's just taking up space needlessly. Sorting through all your belongings before you pack them can be a time consuming job and you'll find the tips below very helpful:

You want to have the following items on hand when you are preparing for a move:

  • Moving boxes
  • Black markers
  • Paper for charting what items are in what boxes
  • Packing tape
  • Newspaper or bubble wrap for wrapping fragile items
  • Trash bags
  • A dumpster rental

Sorting and packing items

Pull everything out of each section of your house one room at a time. You want to make a keep pile, a donate/sell pile and a trash pile. Pack the items you'll be keeping into a box while you take inventory of each item on a piece of paper. Mark a number on the box and its corresponding items on the paper to create a chart. This chart will help you locate your items when the boxes arrive at your new home.

You can break the chart down further by listing the boxes by room. This way, when you get to your new house and you need to find kitchen items, you can look on your chart and see that all your kitchen items are in boxes 1 through 8, for example.

Preparing the house

Once you get the boxes all packed, you may find it easiest to put the packed boxes all in one designated room. This will allow you to view completely empty rooms, knowing you have everything out. Also, it will make it much easier for you to get the rooms cleaned.

Make good use of the dumpster

Rent a dumpster (from a company such as Discount Rubbish Removal Co) and have it put as close as possible to the door where you'll be bringing the trash out. You can fill up a trash can and then bring the can to the dumpster so you don't have to waste a lot of time and energy walking pieces of the trash to the dumpster. If you end up filling the dumpster and still need to use it, you can have it emptied and left for you to continue using it.

By following the tips above you'll see your move will go a lot smoother. Not only will you have an easier time packing, but you'll also have a much easier time unpacking at your new place.
